Poteau Virtual Academy (PVA) is looking for a principal to start our new hybrid program. We are looking for a 12 month employee that can guide our PVA through the startup process. We offer great benefits including full paid retirement and vacation days. This position will have 5 teachers and an administrative assistant with them at the PVA. Applicants must be principal certified and technology savvy. The application process will close Dec. 13, 2024. Start date will be July 1, 2025, however, we will be offering a stipend for the work needed the semseter prior to July 1st. 

 

POSITION TITLE: Principal - Poteau Virtual Academy 

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES OR COORDINATES: All personnel serving in assigned school 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: 

 

     The school principal has general responsibility for everything that goes on in the school to which he/she is assigned. The principalship is primarily a leadership role. Inherent in the leadership function is the function of supervision. Current knowledge and skills about carrying on school programs, teaching and organizing for instruction, how learning occurs, human behavior, motivation, human relations and communications, management, organizational development, planning and other related areas are essential. The principal must be a competent evaluator of programs and personnel. The principal ought to perform his/her duties in light of established district philsophy, goals, policies and regulations and within state department of education regulations and state and federal laws. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

     I. Curriculum

 

         A.  Establish and maintain and educational climate that is conducive to good learning and consistent with the school

              district's philosophy and goals. 

 

         B.  Be knowledgeable of each aspect of the instructional program.

 

         C.  Support and supervise educational programs

 

         D.  Provide leadership and encouragement for a positive and innovative curriculum. 

 

         E.  Motivate the faculty to continuously work to improve the instructional program. 

 

         F.  Provide leadership and support for the implementation of worthy new instructional programs. 

 

         G.  Be informed of current developments, thinking, trends, and programs of education in general; and disseminate

              such information to the faculty when appropriate. 

 

         H.  Exercise leadership in the development and implementation of technology within the guidelines of the District

              Technology Plan. 

 

          I.  Supervise enrollment.

 

 

    II.  PERSONNEL:

 

          A.  Establish a school environment that will motivate others to think of themselves as having worth and dignity. 

 

          B.  Respect the feelings as well as the rights of others. 

 

          C.  Lead others to affirm and accept the personality forces inherent within self. 

 

          D.  Assist students, parents, teachers, and support personnel in solving problems. 

 

          E.  Assist in personnel transfers. 

 

          J.  Recommend to the superintendent personnel for employment or dismissal. 

 

          

    III.  PHYSICAL PLANT AND GROUNDS:

 

           A.  See that buildings, equipment, and grounds are properly maintained, cleaned, safe and secure. 

 

           B.  Review and approve or disapprove all work orders. 

 

     IV.  MANAGERIAL: 

 

           A.  Prepare or supervise the proper preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or     

                appropriate to the school's administration.

 

           B.  Monitor expenditures of funds. 

 

           C.  Supervise the disbursement of chromebooks and other instructional supplies and materials. 

 

      V.  OTHER:

 

           A.  Participate in district administrators meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate. 

 

           B.  Keep the superintendent informed of the school's activities achievements, and problems. 

 

           C.  Keep abreast of changes and new developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading                        professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in field. 

 

           D.  Interpret the school programs to the community. 

 

           E.  Carry out all laws, state regulations, board policies, administrative regulations and instructions from the                                superintendent that relate to the administration of school to which he/she is assigned.  

 

 

EVALUATION:

 

           Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of             administrative personnel.
