Job Summary:

The Poteau Primary School Assistant Principal supports the principal in the overall leadership and administration of the school. This role focuses on fostering a safe, supportive, and academically rich environment for students. The assistant principal works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and families to ensure high standards of academic achievement, effective behavior management, and strong instructional practices.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership

• Assist the principal in the implementation of curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
• Support teachers in analyzing student data to guide instruction and intervention.
• Participate in professional development planning and delivery.
• Monitor and evaluate classroom instruction and provide feedback to teachers

Student Behavior and School Climate

• Oversee student discipline.
• Oversee attendance.
• Promote a safe and respectful school environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to support students’ behavioral and emotional needs.

Staff Support and Collaboration

• Support teachers and staff through mentoring, coaching, and evaluation as assigned.
• Foster positive relationships and teamwork among faculty and staff.

Family and Community Engagement

• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student needs.
• Participate in family engagement events and community outreach.
• Serve as a representative of the school at district and community meetings as needed.

Operational Support

• Assist in managing daily school operations.
• Participate in planning and coordinating school events and assemblies.
• Assist with safety drills.
• Assume responsibility in the absence of the principal.

Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in School Administration/Educational Leadership
• Oklahoma Administrative Certificate
