Requirements:
Oklahoma Certification in Family and Consumer Scienceis required.
Description:
The Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that Impact the lives of individuals, health of families and welfare of communities every day by developing broad expertise to teach critical life skills needed in relationships, parenting, lifespan development, personal finance management, nutrition, interior design, work and family balance and more.
Work Responsibilities and Expectations:
Align instructional practices and resources with Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) Support student learning through thoughtful planning and preparation using sound classroom management practices.
Teaching responsibilities
- Teach courses on topics like nutrition, child development, and financial management
- Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities like cooking and sewing
- Help students navigate challenges like family dynamics and career challenges
- Support students as they make choices about their futures
Other responsibilities
- Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts
- Evaluate and grade student work
- Maintain student records
- Advise students on academic and vocational curricula
- Participate in curriculum development and professional development
- Work with other educators, such as guidance counselors and special education teachers
